AAL FORUM 2011
European Partnership for Social Innovation
The annual conference of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme, the AAL Forum, will take place in Lecce, Italy, between 26 and 28 September 2011. The programme has been published (http://www.aalforum.eu/page/programme-1)
The Forum, this year in its third edition, is a European conference co-organized by the AAL Joint Program (AAL JP), the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), the Puglia Region, the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystem of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-IMM), the Italian Association Ambient Assisted Living (AitAAL), the Province of Lecce, the Municipality of Lecce and Roma Multiservizi.
The objective of the event is twofold: on the one hand the conference aims to show the significant progresses made by the AAL JP projects and its practical implications on the daily life of seniors. On the other hand, considerable attention will be dedicated to the most recent EU initiatives, like the European Innovation Partnership and its pilot on Active and Healthy Ageing promoted by the European Commission.
The AAL Forum will bring together industry stakeholders, researchers, entrepreneurs, end-users and policy makers and will provide them with a unique sharing-knowledge platform to discuss the way forward of innovations for active ageing.
The AAL JP is an initiative, born in 2008, involving 23 countries (20 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries) and its main objectives are to improve the living conditions of older people through the use and development of AAL solutions based on ICT technologies, and to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry in the AAL domain.
The programme´s planned total budget is € 600 M over 6 years, of which approximately 50% is public funding - from the AAL partner states and the European Commission (based on Art. 185 of the EC Treaty) - and approximately 50% is private funding from participating private organisations.
Three years after the start of the programme, the Forum will mark this September a momentous step. The AAL Joint Programme will focus on the possible alternatives to bridge the gap between the innovative solutions resulting from the projects, and the market. One more reason not to miss out the yearly appointment with the world of Ambient Assisted Living in Europe.
